Last Friday (June 14) The Golden Isles Board of Realtors sponsored a meeting on Short Term Rental Policy. Three county commissioners were in attendance. (Peter Murphy, Wayne Neal, and
David O’Quinn). Dr. Murphy presented plans for Host Compliance to contract with the county to assist in the preparation of a county ordinance. There were several STROAGA  members in
attendance and many realtors /managers had questions. Georgia Realtor Lobbyist Brad Mock (who works on STR issues at the state capitol along with STROAGA, bankers, construction entities
and other interested parties) was in attendance. He drew to Dr. Murphy’s attention a part of Georgia statute relating to government registration of residential owners.
I stood up and suggested that the board invite the Association of County Commissioners (ACCG) to assist them in preparing an ordinance. ACCG is a very powerful entity at the capitol that
advocates for counties and assists them in creating and implementing policy. They are local government experts and understand the culture and sentiments of the members of the Georgia
General Assembly on issues concerning private property rights. Missy Neu, who organized and conducted the event made a powerful suggestion: that the BOC create a ‘steering committee’ to
examine the issues and hear from stakeholders. At the meetings end, it appeared that the BOR intends to do this themselves.
