How your Donations to Legal Fund will be used & other questions answered to clear up confusion.5/3/2019 There has been a little confusion about the various places to make contributions to STROAGA and the LEGAL FUND and how that money will be used. Hopefully this will clear everything up.
LEGAL FUND PAGE (this page): The pledge button on this page provides for you to commit to a contribution or donation to the legal fund. Clicking the "Pledge" Button allows you to direct your pledge 100% to the Legal Fund, 50/50 between Legal Fund and STROAGA, and "Other". If you choose "Other" you can type in a different split. Money earmarked for the Legal Fund is only to be used to pay for legal expenses related to hiring one or more Law Firms to pursue any and all manner of legal recourse to effect the reversal of the STR Ban in Forsyth County. None of the money from the Legal Fund will be used to compensate any staff or officers of STROAGA. STROAGA intends to maintain detailed records of all expenditures and remain fully accountable to all members and non members who contribute to the Legal Fund. You do not have to be a member of STROAGA to make a donation to the Legal Fund. JOIN STROAGA (Tab at top that is separate from the Legal Fund tab): If in addition to helping fund our legal challenge to the STR Ban, we encourage you to become a member of the Short Term Rental Owner's Association of Georgia (STROAGA) to support the rights to use private property as a Short Term Rental in the state of Georgia. Any efforts made to promote and protect the interest of STR Owners anywhere in the state will benefit all STR owners in Georgia. Without STROAGA it would be difficult to organize and collectively assemble a Legal Fund to protect our rights here in Forsyth County and we would all be hiring individual attorneys. STROAGA membership is $50.00 per quarter. You can cancel your membership at anytime but it will auto renew quarterly using your initial payment method until you cancel your membership. The money collected through membership dues goes to pay travel expenses and other compensation to our Executive Director Pam O'Dell, for her tireless efforts to build and grow the Association statewide and support our efforts here in Forsyth County. The membership dues can also be used to pay the Bookkeeper STROAGA has hired to keep track of the legal fund. As the Association grows, there will be a need for more paid staff to help with accounting, organizing, supplies, website hosting fees, website support fees, and tons of other expenses associated with running a statewide Association. SHORT TERM RENTAL OWNERS OF FORSYTH COUNTY GA INC (Closed Facebook Group) Short Term Rental Owners of Forsyth County Georgia Inc is a Non Profit Corporation founded by Bob Eskew who also set up a closed FaceBook Group for this organization. This is where the collective efforts of Forsyth County STR Owners began. We all owe a debt of gratitude to Bob Eskew for his leadership in getting us organized in the early days of the STR fight in Forsyth County. This organization has the same goals as the Forsyth County Chapter of STROAGA - and most of the members of the FaceBook Group are part of the growing group of STR owners who have been in the battle to preserve (and now to recover) our rights to do STR in Forsyth County. Initially there was a desire and an effort to merge STROFCG into STROAGA via a name change. But due to some technical difficulties and needing to get the State Organization up and running during the 2019 Legislative Session at the State Capital - STROAGA was formed as a new organization with plans to expand throughout the state by adding additional Chapters. STROFCG remains as a separate entity which supports and supplements the efforts of the Forsyth County Chapter of STROAGA. You may make a donation to Short Term Rental Owners of Forsyth County Georgia Inc using a button on the Closed Forsyth STR Facebook page, and the money collected there will then be donated to STROAGA's Legal Fund. Money paid to that Entity using the Button on the Facebook page will be shown as a lump sum contribution to STROAGA from STROFCG but the records maintained by STROAGA of who paid what to the Legal Fund will not track individual contributions made to STROFCG through the Facebook button (although I am sure Bob would be willing to share that data so we can merge it with STROAGA records). We have been advised by two attorney's who are familiar with property rights law and Short Term Rental issues (Stuart Teague of Teague & Chambliss in Cumming Ga) and Wilson Dubose (Won major STR case in GA Supreme Court) that we must file a complaint within 30 days of passage of the UDC changes (April 18th) in order to preserve all our potential legal options. Please help us raise money to initiate legal action by contributing to newly established " Legal Challenge / Defense Fund" - so named because it can be used for either a facial challenge or a legal defense in an "as applied " challenge to the new law. The money earmarked for Legal Fund will be dedicated specifically for legal fees (such as attorney fees), court cost and filing fees. None of the Money pledged to the legal fund will be used for any purpose other than efforts to use the judicial system to reverse the egregious and unconstitutional changes to Forsyth County UDC. Everyone who contributes to the legal fund will receive a receipt for any and all contributions as well as a full accounting of where all the money has been spent. Your initial contribution will help us get the ball rolling before it's too late. Thank you for your participation. We are all in the same boat.
